HC Deb 27 July 1979 vol 971 cc699-700W
Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services, further to his reply to the hon. Member for Kingston upon Hull, Central on 29 June, what information is available about the number and value of exceptional needs payments paid to pregnant women on supplementary benefit for expenses relating to their maternity; if there is any more recent information than that contained in table 12 to the background paper No. 9 prepared for the supplementary benefit review team; and how representative that information is.

(b) I am not sure to which regulations my hon. Friend refers, but I am advised that reception centres fall outside the scope of part IX of the Public Heath Act 1936 which refers to common lodging houses.

(c) and (d) None.
