HC Deb 27 July 1979 vol 971 c595W
Mr. Shersby

asked the Secretary of State for Trade if he will confirm that British registered aircraft which do not hold a noise certificate will not be operated in the United Kingdom after 1986; and if he will insure that British Government policy is designed to secure similar compliance by foreign airlines using British airports.

Mr. Tebbit

The use of all non-noise-certificate subsonic jets on the United Kingdom register will be prohibited from 1 January 1986. In the absence of international agreement, the application of domestic requirements to foreign-registered aircraft would disrupt the orderly development of civil aviation. However, the great majority of countries with a major interest in civil aviation are introducing similar requirements from comparable dates. The draft EEC directive on aircraft noise would reinforce this position in EEC countries.
