HC Deb 26 July 1979 vol 971 c363W
Mr. Stephen Ross

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is his estimate of the number of qualified school teachers who are at present unemployed; and what he anticipates the position will be in 12 months' time.

Dr. Boyson

The number of people in England registered in June as unemployed and seeking school teaching posts was 6,666. This represents a fall of over one-third during the 1978–79 school year. It is not possible to forecast the number of teachers who will be unemployed at any future date.
