§ 39. Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he has received the communication dated 18 July from the hon. Member for Newham, North-West giving documentary evidence that the Government's policy of banning entry into Great Britain of scientologists is against the principles of natural justice and is being operated in a discriminatory manner; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. WhitelawI have received the hon. Member's letter.
§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) whether he can give an assurance that the Government's policy of banning scientologists from entry into Great Britain for teaching and working for Scientology can, and is, being generally enforced against all overseas scientologists and is not being used to discriminate in favour of and against some scientologists in view of the action taken in the case of the Danish Member of Parliament, Mr. Ole Govmand;
385W(2) why the Government's declared policy that scientologists will not be admitted into Great Britain to work for that Church was not enforced in the case of Mr. Ole Govmand, a Danish citizen; and why Mr. Govmand has been allowed in to work for scientology.
§ Mr. WhitelawAn exception was made because of Mr. Govmand's position as a Member of the Dutch Parliament.
