HC Deb 26 July 1979 vol 971 c383W
34. Mr. Gummer

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what measures he intends to take to enable chief constables to improve policing in rural areas.

Mr. Whitelaw

It is for each chief constable to determine the most suitable methods of policing for rural areas in his force, taking into account all the demands on his resources. The current improvement in police strengths will help in this respect.
