Mr. Christopher Price

asked the Lord Privy Seal if he will list in theOfficial Report the schools from which receipted bills were submitted in the last convenient year to facilitate the payment of allowances for the education of the children of staff for which the Foreign and Commonwealth Office is responsible, including the Overseas Development Administration.

Mr. Hurd

At at the end of the summer term 1979, allowances were being paid for children of diplomatic service staff attending the boarding schools listed below. As regards the Overseas Development Administration, this information is not readily available and could not be provided without disproportionate cost.

asked the Lord Privy Seal if he will list in theOfficial Report the number of allowances and the total amount paid by the Government in allowances for the education of the children of those involved with the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, including the Overseas Development Administration, and the cost of aid for children's travelling expenses in 1977–78 and 1978–79.

As regards the Overseas Development Administration, the combined cost of boarding school allowances and day school fees overseas at the end of the financial years in question was, respectively, £2,486,000 and £2,336,000. I regret that information on the other points is not readily available and could not be provided without disproportionate cost.
