asked Her Majesty's Government:

What arrangements have been made for financial support to the London Music Colleges; and whether other support given by local authorities will be exempt from reductions in local government expenditure.

The Department of Education and Science is continuing to fund the three direct grant colleges of music in London on the basis of deficiency grant. The two other London music colleges are independent establishments. Any support given by local authorities may be affected by reductions in their expenditure, but this will depend on decisions to be taken by individual authorities as to how economies can be realised.
