Industrial Language Training

Mr. John Grant

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) what steps he will take to encourage the improvement of industrial language training;

(2) if he will give an assurance that public expenditure cuts will not adversely affect the industrial language training programme due to be implemented by the Manpower Services Commission.

Mr. Jim Lester

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that the rate of development of industrial language training is at present under consideration.

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what steps he will take to encourage the improvement of industrial language training in Lancaster.

Mr. Jim Lester

I am informed by the Manpower Services Commission that the industrial language training needs of Lancaster are covered by the Lancashire industrial language training unit based in Nelson and Colne. The possibility of further development of the unit is still under consideration.
