HC Deb 26 July 1979 vol 971 c403W
Mr. McQuarrie

asked the Lord Privy Seal whether the interview granted to the editor of a Gibraltarian newspaper by Sir William Jackson, present governor of Gibraltar, was made with his approval; and whether the fact that the governor made political comments on the Gibraltar-Spanish situation is a change from the practice of previous governors.

Sir Ian Gilmour

The governor has accorded long background interviews to a number of Gibraltar newspapers. This procedure has my general approval. The contents of the interviews are not, and in the nature of things could not be, cleared in advance.
