HC Deb 26 July 1979 vol 971 cc462-3W
Mr. John Wells

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if all heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment ordered by his Department conforms to the relevant British standards for safety and performance to satisfy current legislation and the need for energy conservation.

Mr. Geoffrey Finsberg

Almost all of the equipment incorporated into the Department's heating, ventilation and air conditioning installations is provided through our installation contractors from manufacturers' standard ranges. The remainder is purchased directly.

Products are required to conform to standards of quality, performance and energy conservation measures as set by the British Standards Institution when such standards have been prepared and are currently in force. Exceptionally the Department may add to these where engineering experience requires it.

Safety measures associated with equipment are either invoked through the protection afforded by the British Standards or by other authorities, for example, the Health and Safety Executive and the utility supply authorities.
