§ Mr. Bruce-Gardyneasked the Secretary of State for Industry whether cash limits have been set for expenditure under section 7 of the Industry Act 1972.
§ Mr. David MitchellCash limits are not appropriate to regional selective assistance under section 7 of the Industry Act because the annual rate of payment is dependent upon the number of applications received which meet the criteria for assistance, and on the progress of projects being supported. However, as my right hon. Friend announced in the House on 17 July, the criteria for such assistance are being tightened, thus limiting the overall Government commitment in the longer term.
