HC Deb 26 July 1979 vol 971 c467W
Mr. Campbell-Savours

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he intends to give approval for the demolition of a listed building called the Bowling Green hotel on the Scotforth Square development site.

Mr. Monro

Although this building is listed as being of special architectural or historic interest my predecessor informed the Lancaster city council in April 1979 that he did not wish to intervene in the granting of listed building consent to demolish the building as part of a redevelopment scheme including road improvement, in view of its unexceptional architectural merit and poor physical condition.

The question of its demolition is now a matter entirely for the local planning authority as part of its consideration of any planning application relating to the redevelopment.
