§ Mr. Alec Jonesasked the Secretary of State for Industry what estimate he has made of the savings in public expenditure in Wales as a result of the changes in regional industrial policy announced on 17 July.
§ Mr. David Mitchell,pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 23 July 1979; Vol. 971, c. 16],gave the following answer
By 1982–83, when the savings are expected to become fully effective, it is estimated that expenditure on regional development grants in Wales will be reduced by £35 million and on selective assistance by about £106 million annually.
