Mr. John Grant

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the Government have taken a decision to set up a national economic forum during 1979 or at a later date.

Sir Geoffrey Howe,

pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 24 July 1979; Vol. 971, c.184], gave the following answer:

The Government are fully committed to the promotion of more open and informed discussion of economic trends and objectives. We are giving careful consideration to all the possible ways in which this might be achieved.
