HC Deb 25 July 1979 vol 971 c257W
Mr. Wall

asked the Lord Privy Seal, in view of the considerable concessions already made by the Government of the Republic of South Africa and the election of a representative Government in Namibia, what are the Government's intentions with regard to the future independence of Namibia.

Mr. Luce

The Government intend to continue to work, with our four Western partners, for the implementation of the five's proposal for a settlement in accordance with Security Council resolution 435. The Governments of the five announced today the appointment of Sir James Murray as their envoy to explore with the South African Government the remaining problems relating to implementation and the arrival of UNTAG in Namibia. Sir James Murray is expected to begin his discussions shortly.
