HC Deb 25 July 1979 vol 971 c253W
41. Mr. Douglas-Mann

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the latest information as to the proportion of local authority tenants who are in receipt of either rent rebate or supplementary benefit.

Mr. Stanley

On the latest information available, an estimated 44 per cent. of local authority and new town tenants in England and Wales received rent assistance in 1978. Just under 20 per cent. are estimated to have received assistance by rent rebate direct from their local authority, and some 25 per cent. to have received it via the supplementary benefit system.
