HC Deb 25 July 1979 vol 971 c289W
Mr. Body

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if any further objects have been accepted in lieu of estate duty or capital transfer tax.

Mr. Peter Rees

Yes, a painting by Elsheimer entitled "The Death of Procris"—also known as "Apollo and Coronis"—has been accepted in lieu of estate duty.

An annoucement about its allocation will be made in due course by the Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, Minister with special responsibility for the Arts, after taking advice from the Standing Commission on museums and galleries.

The total cost borne by the national land fund after allowing for relief from capital gains tax and estate duty is £52,375.
