HC Deb 25 July 1979 vol 971 c275W
Mr. Michael Brown

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the cost of training a doctor in(a) the United Kingdom,(b) other member countries of the European Economic Community and(c) the United States of America.

Dr. Boyson

The average net institutional recurrent cost of training a doctor in medicine between university entrance and MB graduation is estimated to be about £20,000 at 1978 survey prices. This figure excludes capital costs, student support and certain costs met by the Health Service in providing clinical facilities and support of medical training.

I have no information on the cost of such training in other member countries of the European Economic Community or in the United States of America.
