HC Deb 23 July 1979 vol 971 cc72-3W
Mr. Hardy

asked the Minister of Agriculture. Fisheries and Food if he is satisfied with the present situation in regard to the EEC sheep regime; and what action he is taking to assist United Kingdom sheep farming.

Mr. Buchanan-Smith

The Commission's proposals for an EEC sheepmeat regime are still under discussion and, while much remains to be settled, I am satisfied that these proposals form a reasonable basis for negotiation. We are implementing a 50p increase in hill sheep compensatory allowances and will review aids for hill sheep producers in October.
