HC Deb 23 July 1979 vol 971 c60W
Mr. Hardy

asked the Secretary of State for Energy what was the total volume of gas flared in the North Sea during the last four weeks; and how this compares with inland gas consumption during the same period.

Mr. Gray

The total volume of gas flared in the North Sea during the month of May, the latest month for which figures are available, was equivalent to 0.61 million tonnes of oil.

During the same period the amount of natural gas supplied into the public gas supply system totalled 2.89 million tonnes oil equivalent.

United Kingdom Continental Shelf production of oil in May 1979 totalled 6.79 million tonnes—a record level—whilst the May gas supply figures reflect the usual seasonal decline from the higher winter levels.
