HC Deb 23 July 1979 vol 971 cc89-90W
Mr Kilroy-Silk

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what action he is taking to ensure that ex-patients of Broadmoor are allowed to visit patients in the hospital in the same way as any other citizens can visit their relatives and friends.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

The general policy at Broadmoor hospital is to allow the maximum visiting that is consonant with the good management and security of the hospital as a whole, as well as with the clinical condition of individual patients. When last autumn he placed restrictions, for the time being, on visits by former patients, the physician superintendent was satisfied that this step was necessary at the time to ensure the continued effective operation of the hospital. Since then, in the light of discussions with local union officials, he has felt able to modify these restrictions.
