§ Mr. ChannonDetailed figures could be obtained only at disproportionate cost, but in the last financial year it is estimated that between 10,000 and 11,000 members of the Home Civil and Diplomatic Service served outside the United Kingdom for more than 30 days. Of these, approximately 2,000 were serving on short-term assignments which when aggregated totalled more than 30 days in each case.
