§ Mr. Millanasked the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will state the various kinds of assistance his Department gives for the furtherance of Gaelic and the sums involved.
§ Mr. YoungerThe information in respect of grants in the current year is as follows:
£ An Comunn Gaidhealach 29,900 Sabhal Mor Ostaig 6,600 Gaelic Books Council 22,986* * £45,000 in all over the period 1 April 1977 to 31 March 1980. In addition, my Department has since 1975 sponsored jointly with the Western Isles islands council a project for the development of a bilingual curriculum in primary schools. Over the six years to 1981 the total departmental grant will be nearly £80,000.
