§ Mr. George Robertsonasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the present position regarding consultations on the documents on a tenants' charter issued by his Department in January; and when he expects them to be completed.
§ Mr. RifkindThe consultation documents were, of course, issued by the previous Administration and do not necessarily reflect our own views on the various elements of a tenants' charter. However, we consider that the responses submitted to the documents by various bodies will provide a useful input to the consideration of our own proposals. It is not proposed to embark upon a fresh round of consultation but we shall discuss our proposals with the parties concerned, as necessary, throughout the period prior to the introduction of legislation and, where relevant, we shall take their comments on the consultation documents as a starting point for such discussions. In particular, I shall be meeting representatives of the Convention of Scottish Local Authorities in the near future to discuss their views.
