§ Lord KENNETasked Her Majesty's Government:
How many local councils collect used lubricating oil, how the work is financed, how much oil is collected this way, and what becomes of it.
§ Lord BELLWINSome local authorities provide collection facilities for waste oil at "civic amenity sites"; others arrange for and publicise collection facilities at selected garages throughout their areas. In the United Kingdom as a whole some 60 per cent. of the 500,000 tonnes of waste oil arising annually is recovered. Most of this is used for heating purposes but about one-sixth is regenerated for re-use as lubricating oil. I regret that answers to the other questions could be provided only at disproportionate expense.
