Mr. Eggar

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many beds in the North-East Thames region hospitals which would otherwise be available for the treatment of mentally ill and mentally handicapped patients are presently unavailable due to staff shortages;

(2) how many beds in Chase Farm hospital, Enfield, which would otherwise be available for the treatment of mentally ill and mentally handicapped patients, are presently unavailable due to staff shortages;

(3) what percentage of the number of beds made available for the treatment of mentally ill and mentally handicapped patients are presently unavailable due to staff shortages in all National Health Service hospitals, all North-East Thames region hospitals and Chase Farm hospital, Enfield, respectively.
