§ Mr. Alexanderasked the Minister of Transport if he will take steps to alleviate the hardship caused to people living in the country, particularly the retired, arising out of worsening bus and other public transport provision.
§ Mr. FowlerI am urgently considering how the licensing system can best be relaxed to encourage the development of less conventional transport services and the growth of bus services run by private operators, particularly in rural areas. One of my aims will be to help county councils in carrying out their responsibilities in the public transport field by widening the choices available.
