§ Mr. Humphrey AtkinsOn the morning of 24 June, following a telephone call to the RUC from a member of the public, the body of Joseph Porter, a part-time member of the Ulster Defence Regiment, was found at the gateway of his home at Mountnorris, Co. Armagh. Mr. Porter had sustained gunshot wounds to the head. The Provisional Irish Republican Army later admitted that it was responsible for the murder. No arrests have yet been made, but police inquiries aimed at apprehending those responsible are being vigorously pursued.
