§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer at what date the present rate of tax allowance for luncheon vouchers was fixed; and taking into account the depreciation of the £ sterling what was the relative value of this amount at the latest convenient date compared with the date of its inception.
§ Mr. Peter Reespursuant to his reply [Official Report, 3 July 1979; Vol. 969. c. 553], gave the following answer:
In its existing form, the concession under which the first 15 pence of luncheon vouchers are tax free dates from 1959. Its current equivalent as measured by increases in the retail price index would be about 64 pence.
§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will now revise the amount allowable in tax relief 782W on luncheon vouchers to bring these into line with 1979 prices.
