§ Mr. Stan Thorneasked the Lord Privy Seal whether the Government advised the United Nations Commission for Refugees of the total number of Vietnamese immigrants the United Kingdom is prepared to allow entry to Great Britain for the purpose of settlement, in order to facilitate the operation of the recently concluded agreement between the United Nations Commission for Refugees and the Government of Vietnam on the orderly departure and resettlement of Vietnamese emigrants; and if so, what number has been defined.
§ Mr. BlakerNo such number has been communicated to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
§ Mr. Stan Thorneasked the Lord Privy Seal if he will make a statement outlining the role Her Majesty's Government propose to play within the terms of the agreement reached between the United Nations Commission for Refugees and the Government of Vietnam for the orderly departure and subsequent settlement of emigrants from Vietnam.
§ Mr. BlakerThe Government are not called on to play any role. The agreement covers only refugees who have already been offered or are likely to be eligible for resettlement on grounds of 663W family ties. We shall consider any requests for settlement in the United Kingdom in the normal way.
§ Mr. Stan Thorneasked the Lord Privy Seal if he will place in the Library a copy of the text of the recent agreement concluded between the United Nations Commission for Refugees and the Government of Vietnam defining the terms of joint United Nations-Vietnamese responsibility for the orderly departure of emigrants from Vietnam.
