What was the total size of the staff of the British Embassy in Paris in 1938 and in 1978.

The figures for United Kingdom based and locally employed staff are 64 (plus an unknown number of Service attachés' support staff) in 1938 and 253 in 1978 (including Service attachés).

Recommendation Action
1. Extension of the Grasslands Trials Unit. GTU complement has been increased from 4 to 6. ODA now has Standing Committee who closely monitor GTU.
2. Establishment by phases of an Agriculture Department by FIG. FIG seeking part-time Agricultural Officer. At present relying on help from GUT.
3. Establishment of smaller farm units by FIG to widen the ownership of land. Being implemented.
4. Continuation of grants for fencing land (Efficiency improvement grants). Agreed.
5. FIG Assistance in land improvement (by e.g. more ditching). Agreed.
6. FIG should seek to involve themselves in FICo policy making and devise an institutional solution to ensure that the Company gives due weight to the interests of the Islanders. FIG have sought to establish closer personal relationship with FICo.
GOVERNMENT RECURRENT FINANCES
7. FIG should increase company taxation by 5 per cent., and to increase the rates of capital allowances. Implemented.
8. FIG should increase personal taxation; review benefits in kind; and introduce small income relief. Implemented.
