asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many firms and how many employees have been assisted and at what cost by the small firms employment subsidy in: (a) the London borough of Islington and (b) the Hackney-Islington inner city partnership area and how many applications are outstanding.

As at 31 May 1979, 468 applications for subsidy under the small firms employment subsidy scheme from small firms in the Hackney-Islington inner city partnership area—including 219 in the area of the London Borough of Islington—had been approved. At the same date the numbers of extra jobs provided in the two areas was 942 and 406 at an estimated cost of £489,800 and £211,100 respectively, if subsidy is claimed for the full period of 26 weeks.

A total of 15 applications from small firms in the Hackney-Islington inner city partnership area—including seven in the London borough of Islington—are under consideration.
