§ Mr. Marlowasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department on the basis of the trend in population growth over the last five years as shown in "Population Trends" No. 16, what will be the size of the new Commonwealth and Pakistani population in 2051, on the assumption that the trends were to continue according to variant B.
§ Sir George YoungI have been asked to reply.
The projections published in "population Trend" No. 16 were based on a number of detailed assumptions which could not sensibly be extended mechanically for a further half century. Any projection to the year 2051 would be too speculative to serve any useful purpose.
