§ Mr. Norman LamontAs my right hon. Friend told the House on 11 June the Government believe that nuclear power has a vital long-term role to play in our energy policy. My right hon. Friend gave investment approval last week for the construction by the CEGB of the 1,320 MW second stage of the advanced gas-cooled reactor power station at Heysham, and work to establish the pressurised water reactor systems as a viable option for the United Kingdom is being carried forward and will continue. Further decisions will be taken and announced as necessary.
