HC Deb 04 July 1979 vol 969 c628W
Mr. Tom Ellis

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services which bodies advocating forms of medical treatment are expected by him to be self-supporting financially in their education programmes.

Dr. Vaughan

Postgraduate medical education is primarily a matter for the professional and academic bodies concerned and I look for advice to the Council on Postgraduate Medical Education. The Department provides funds to support postgraduate medical education for general practitioners and health authorities support the education and training of hospital doctors by granting study leave. Decisions about courses to provide or support rests with the postgraduate medical deans of universities and with study leave committees set up by regional health authorities.
