HC Deb 04 July 1979 vol 969 cc624-5W
Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he win make a statement about his policy concerning the clinical audit of general practice standard by general practitioners.

Dr. Vaughan

I have read with great interest the discussion of clinical audit in general practice included in the report of a working group of the General Medical Services Committee—the "New Charter" report. If there are matters arising from that which the profession wishes to raise with the Department, we should of course be very ready to discuss them. But, as the report itself made clear, the public look to doctors themselves on matters of clinical standards and any decisions on clinical audit are matters for the profession.
