HL Deb 03 July 1979 vol 401 cc358-9WA
Lord BALFOUR of INCHRYE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will state the number of motor-cars and drivers at present allotted to individual Ministers and senior civil servants and the number of cars and drivers in the pool for use of other Ministers as compared to June 1974; and whether in view of the urgent need for fuel conservation any new regulations or restrictions are contemplated for the use of these cars.

Lord BELLWIN

Seventy-eight cars and drivers are specially allotted and 46 are in the pool. Comparable figures for 1974 are not available, although since 1975 there has been a reduction of 17 per cent. in the number of cars in the Government car service in London. Instructions have been issued to the Government car service to achieve a saving of 5 per cent. in fuel used.
