Mr. Cryer

asked the Secretary of State for Industry if he will list the representatives of small business organisations he has met; and what further provisions he intends to place before the House to encourage small manufacturing businesses.

Ministers in this Department have already met the following organisations:

  • Association of Independent Businesses.
  • Association of Self-Employed People.
  • CBI Smaller Firms Council.
  • Development Commission/CoSIRA.
  • Forum of Independent Business.
  • National Federation of Self Employed and Small Businesses.
  • Union of Independent Companies.
Further meetings are being arranged with other organisations representing the small firm sector.

In addition, there have been various meetings with chambers of commerce, financial institutions, trade associations and individual small firms. On policy towards small businesses, I refer the hon. Member to the reply my right hon. Friend gave to my hon. Friend the Member for St. Marylebone (Mr. Baker) on Monday 25 June 1979.
