HL Deb 02 July 1979 vol 401 c212WA
Lord AVEBURY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether they will publish an analysis showing how many (i) of the 10,829 determinate sentence prisoners who could have been considered for parole in 1978, (ii) of the 1,622 prisoners granted parole by the Home Secretary after consideration by the local review committee under procedures laid down in Section 35 of the Criminal Justice Act 1972, and (iii) of the 3,193 prisoners granted parole after review by the Parole Board were liable to deportation on completion of their sentences, on the recommendation of the courts and otherwise, respectively.

Lord BELSTEAD

I regret that some of this information is either not available or could only be obtained at disproportionate cost. However, 72 determinate sentence prisoners released early on parole licence in 1978 were deported, of whom 9 were released under Section 35 arrangements.
