HC Deb 02 July 1979 vol 969 c435W
Mr. Grylls

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if it is his intention to issue a directive to British Gas to encourage the greater use of natural gas to replace the shortfall of fuel oil in industry; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Norman Lamont

No. British Gas Corporation is already making a substantion contribution to industrial requirements, within the limits of its supply position, and often as an alternative to the use of fuel oil in industry. I am satisfied that the British Gas Corporation meets its statutory obligations.
