asked the Secretary of State for Energy whether high alumina cement has been used in the construction of any nuclear power stations in the United Kingdom.

High alumina cement (HAC) was used in small quantities in minor works associated with auxiliary plant at the nuclear stations at Trawsfynydd and Heysham, and so far as the CEGB knows none has been used since then. The use of HAC in CEGB power stations was subjected to a restrictive specification which limited its employment and imposed conditions on the way this cement was handled. In no case has HAC been used in concrete structures affecting the safety of nuclear stations.

Power stations in Scotland are a matter for my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland.
