HC Deb 02 July 1979 vol 969 cc440-1W
Mr. Canavan

asked the Attorney-General whether, in the light of the Thorpe trial, he will introduce a prosecution system similar to the Scottish system where the press are not allowed to report the preliminary hearing of evidence before a trial commences.

Mr. Whitelaw

I have been asked to reply.

The prosecution system in England and Wales is under review by the Royal Commission on Criminal Procedure.

I have no present plans for Government legislation of the kind proposed.
