§ Mr. Ian Stewartasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will estimate the extra revenue that would be obtained by raising each of the specific taxes by 10 per cent., and the effect of each such increase on the retail price index and on the pensioners' price index.
§ Mr. Robert Sheldon, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 29 January 1979; Vol. 961, c. 354], gave the following information:
Estimates of the extra revenue, the effect on the retail price index and on the price indices for one-person and two-person pensioner households in the full year 1978–79 are:
allows individual American States to tax British companies on a unitary basis; what effect he thinks this will have on British exports and industry operating in the United States of America; whether he has received representations from industrialists worried about the increased tax burden this convention permits; and when he intends to publish the third protocol.
§ Mr. Joel Barnett, pursuant to his reply [Official Report, 29 January 1979; Vol. 961, c. 354], gave the following information:
I would refer my hon. Friend to the replies given to the hon. Member for Northwich (Mr. Goodlad) on 6 November 425W 1978—[Vol. 957, c. 55–56]—and to herself on 22 January 1979—[Vol. 961, c. 32–34]. It would be inappropriate to comment further before the third protocol is signed on behalf of the respective 426W Governments and published. It is hoped that signature will be within the next few weeks, and the protocol will be published as soon as possible thereafter.
