HL Deb 30 January 1979 vol 398 cc120-1WA
Lord HOUGHTON of SOWERBY

asked Her Majesty's Government:

In what circumstances certain letters from officers of the Home Office on matters relating to the Cruelty to Animals Act 1876 are signed by persons designated as officers in the "After-Care" branch of the Department.

The MINISTER of STATE, HOME OFFICE (Lord Boston of Faversham)

Staff dealing with these matters are, for organisational and management purposes, grouped, with others, in a Department whose largest single function is probation and after-care and which is, for convenience, designated the "Probation and After-Care Department" notwithstanding that it has wider functions.
