HC Deb 25 January 1979 vol 961 c199W
28. Mr. Wall

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will specify his main reasons for objecting to the introduction of a citizens' band radio; and if he will reconsider this decision.

Dr. Summerskill

There are strong arguments on regulatory, administrative and social grounds against the introduction of citizens' band radio. In particular, we are not satisfied that an effective means could be found of overcoming the problems of control and interference to other services commonly associated with its use in other countries.

The arguments for and against citizens' band radio are kept continually under review: but we remain, on balance, opposed to its introduction in this country.
