HC Deb 24 January 1979 vol 961 cc145-6W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many magistrates in juvenile courts there are in each of the following age bands: 21 to 30 years, 30 to 40 years, 40 to 50 years, and 50 to 65 years of age.

Mr. Arthur Davidson

I have been asked to reply.

Except in Inner London, magistrates are not appointed to the juvenile panel directly by my noble Friend but are elected by their own benches throughout the country for a three-year term. The information asked for is not available in central records held by the Department of my noble Friend and can be ascertained only by the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of time and money.
