Mr. Hookyasked the Secretary of State for Transport what studies have been made by his Department of trans-Pennine communications between South Yorkshire and South Lancashire and the relative roles of road and rail transport in providing freight and passenger services in this area.
§ Mr. HoramNo further studies have been made by this Department since the detailed one which resulted in the announcement in February 1977 that my right hon. Friend had decided a comprehensive new road between Manchester and Sheffield would not be justified on economic grounds.
