HC Deb 23 January 1979 vol 961 c115W
Mr. Craigen

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland how many teachers in primary and secondary schools and further education colleges, respectively, in Scotland are currently receiving responsibility payments.

Mr. McElhone

At October 1977—the latest date for which information is at present available—education authorities in Scotland employed 27,028 teachers in primary schools and 29,814 in secondary schools; of these 5,540 and 13,951 were in receipt of responsibility payments. In further education colleges there were at the same date 4,830 teachers, of whom 1,598 were in promoted posts for which there are specific salary scales or fixed salaries.
