HC Deb 23 January 1979 vol 961 c118W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will publish a table indicating the number of psycho-geriatric beds available in each of the health authority areas of Wales together with the estimated number needed in each area.

Mr. Barry Jones

The classification "psycho-geriatric" is not used by most Welsh health authorities for designating hospital beds or estimating needs. Only two health authorities have beds so designated—Gwent, 157; and Mid-Glamorgan, 27. All authorities make the provision they consider appropriate for the elderly mentally infirm.
