HC Deb 22 January 1979 vol 961 cc53-4W
Mr. Nicholas Winterton

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he is satisfied that all sugar beet factories are functioning normally; and, where he is not, if he will indicate which factories are affected and what measures he is taking to resolve the interruption of supplies.

Mr. John Silkin

All the factories are working, The haulage drivers' strike has affected the supply of beet and the removal of sugar and beet pulp and in some instances this has reduced the rate of production. In the main, beet supplies have been maintained by the use of growers' vehicles.
